"We want to reinvent home music," Tim Cook said today as Apple announced the HomePod.
Powered by the same A8 chip that powers the iPhone, the HomePod is a 7-inch-tall speaker containing "amazing audio technology," says Phil Schiller. "It sounds incredible."
The speaker has "spatial awareness," Schiller says. This will allow the speaker to detect what kind of space it is sitting in—whether a small room, large room, on a table, or sitting on a shelf. With its "beam technology," this will allow the speaker to create a carefully crafted sound, tailored to the room it's placed in.
With Siri connectivity, voice commands place the entirety of Apple Music just a word away.
Siri connectivity will also allow the speaker to answer questions, share information, and control smart devices via HomeKit.
