This photograph of the library at Combermere Abbey was taken in 1891 and shows the ghosty figure of a man sitting in the chair on the left.
The supposed ghost is believed to be the spirit of Lord Combermere, who died that same year, and whose funeral was taking place on the very same day only four miles away.
However, the photograph was reportedly taken with a one-hour exposure, and so it cannot be ruled out that the image is simply the result of someone sitting in the chair for only a short period during the photograph's exposure.
Staff at the abbey, however, denied this, insisting that all staff were attending the funeral.
